The American Medical Association will be replacing the temporary CPT® codes insurance and ABA practitioners use for billing and reimbursing ABA (applied behavior analysis) treatment services with new permanent CPT® codes.
Effective January 1, 2019, the new codes for adaptive behavior assessment and treatment (ABA) will roll out. ABA Practitioners, insurance carriers and the Coalition are busy receiving trainings to move forward in hopes of reducing the risk of service gaps to consumers and payment gaps to providers.
A special thank you to the AMA and Steering Committee for the ABA Services Work Group, which comprises representatives of the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, Association for Behavior Analysis International, Behavior Analyst Certification Board, and Autism Speaks as well as CPT consultants, for all their hard work!
